Normandy Photography Workshops
In the Land of Impressionists, History and Dramatic Shores
Normandy is a photographer’s dream where history, light and landscape blend in perfect harmony. From the dramatic white cliffs carved by the sea to the timeless medieval towns and the poignant beaches that changed the course of the 20th century, every corner tells a powerful visual story. The iconic cliffs of Étretat rise like natural cathedrals against the English Channel, while the abbey of Mont Saint Michel emerges majestically from the tides. Half-timbered houses in Honfleur reflect in the old harbor, and the rolling fields and historic centers of Bayeux and Caen echo with centuries of art and resilience. Golden light bathes the D-Day sites with solemn beauty, and the ever-changing skies and sea mists create endless opportunities for moody, atmospheric images. A privately led photo workshop in Normandy is not just about capturing pictures — it is about immersing yourself in a region that has inspired artists for generations and experiencing its unique magic through your lens. Join me there and let me guide you in an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime photo adventure.
Main Shooting Locations
Bayeux
Charming historical centre with half-timbered houses, cobblestone streets and the magnificent Bayeux Cathedral. The Tapestry Museum offers unique opportunities for indoor detail and cultural photography..
Caen
Historic centre, impressive castle and cathedral providing architectural contrast and urban scenes with deep historical resonance.
Étretat
World-famous chalk cliffs with natural arches and the needle rock, painted by the impressionism master Monet in more than 40 of his works — perfect for dramatic seascapes, long exposures and golden-hour silhouettes.
Fécamp
The majestic medieval church Abbatiale Sainte Trinité and the rugged coastline offering architectural grandeur against the sea.
Honfleur
Picturesque Vieux Bassin with colorful half-timbered houses, the old port and the striking Pont de Normandie for reflections, street scenes and modern engineering contrasts.
Arromanches-les-Bains
The famous Mulberry harbor remains, cliffs and the D-Day museum, where remnants of history meet the sea.
D-Day Landing Beaches
(mainly Omaha and Utah Beach): Vast sandy shores where history and landscape combine for powerful, reflective images.
Colleville-sur-Mer
The moving American Cemetery and memorials overlooking Omaha Beach — a place of solemn beauty and poignant light.
Barfleur
The picturesque fishing port and the iconic Phare de Gatteville lighthouse standing tall against the sea.
Le Mont Saint Michel
The breathtaking tidal island and abbey, one of the most photogenic sites in the world, especially at sunrise, sunset or during the dramatic incoming tide.
Example of a typical
day in the field
Early morning
We start early, leaving the hotel about 50–60 minutes before sunrise to reach one of the iconic locations such as the cliffs of Étretat or the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer for the first light painting the landscape in soft tones. After the sunrise shoot we enjoy a relaxed breakfast, then move to a nearby historic town like Bayeux or Honfleur to explore the medieval streets, cathedral and harbor with beautiful morning light.
Afternoon
In the afternoon, after a short break and lunch in a traditional Norman bistro, we head to another highlight — perhaps the abbey of Mont Saint Michel for scouting the tides and architecture, or the dramatic coastline around Fécamp and Barfleur. We take time for creative compositions, long exposures on the beaches, and discussions about light and framing.
Evening and sunset
As the day progresses toward golden hour and twilight, we position ourselves for sunset at one of the most photogenic spots, such as the cliffs of Étretat or overlooking the D-Day beaches, capturing the changing colors and reflections. The day often concludes with night photography if conditions allow, practicing long exposures of illuminated landmarks or the starry sky above the abbey. Transportation between locations is provided by rented car or van, and the pace is adapted to the group’s energy and the weather.
